Geomatics is the science and study of data collected on landscapes, spaces and earth surfaces. The science of geomatics stretches back thousands of years – though the tools used to perform these studies have drastically changed over time.  Modern geomatics uses cutting-edge sensors to gather insight for industries such as oil, gas, mining, construction, utilities, agriculture and renewable energy. These sensors, now used in every sector of industry, are collectively referred to as Remote Sensing.  Genesis Aviation has begun to leverage these Remote Sensing technologies to offer modern business solutions.

Pipeline & Pipeline Construction Surveillance:

Genesis Aviation’s Geomatics Program offers a cohesive reporting system that unifies all surveillance methods. The model ensures accurate and consistent data across your entire geographic area, including satellite, fixed, and rotary wing, as well as drone visual line-of-sight operation. In addition, we advise on visual inspections, leak detections, GIS integration, and standard reporting in compliance with local regulations.

Specifically, during the construction process, regular aerial monitoring keeps you appraised of progress. The development reports can include overall mapping, quantitative measurements, environmental impact assessments on nearby flora, and geotechnical analysis including 3D data products.

Genesis Aviation’s Geomatics Program provides the ability to inspect high or remote areas with airborne cameras and other NDT instruments. The added value is proven through prevention of unplanned failures. Sensor data, combined with machine learning, speeds up large and extensive inspection projects like bridges, communication towers, large aircraft, and tall structures. Properly implemented, the aerial inspections offer efficiency gains in allowing regular operations during inspections, and with the ability to check structural integrity to the centimeter, the user can identify potential issues before they become critical and provide thorough documentation for insurance purposes.

Genesis Aviation’s Geomatic Program incorporates an array of remote sensing technology, designed to conduct multi-faceted surveys in diverse and complex terrains. Genesis’s operational experience encompasses the acquisition of data across major geographic regions within North and South America. Our systems incorporate the advanced technology, which includes satellite and aerial imagery, magnetic and electromagnetic geophysical tools sourced from an airborne vehicle, and 3D modelling based on satellite radar, photogrammetry, or LiDar. The result is the acquisition of quality data providing the opportunity for reliable interpretations, with a view towards completing the program in a cost-effective, time-sensitive and safe environment.

Wind Turbine Inspections:

Genesis Aviation’s Geomatics Program can be scheduled for the inspection of turbines affording the opportunity to observe blade and mechanical integrity. Knowledge of potential failures allows for efficient maintenance planning and minimizes downtime. We offer both visual and infrared photography, highlighting temperature deviations that indicate stressed areas or leaks. The equipment has a drone-borne wash system that can rinse the blades of insects and debris, increasing performance and efficiency. New technology is being developed to bring Eddy Current Array Non-Destructive Testing methods onto drone aerial platforms for material integrity testing.

We use the following technologies in our Geomatics program:



There is a variety of cameras suitable for airborne applications: visible light; infrared; narrow-band spectrum; and hyperspectral. Each camera offers a unique perspective from above. In addition, the specific advantages each camera provides can gather data on vegetation, soil composition, rock and mineral quality. On a drone, the cameras are positioned and flown with high accuracy. Other vehicle platforms, such as satellites, offer advantages in large area mapping.

Laser Scanning

Laser Scanners

Lasers use reflected pulses to gather data with incredible accuracy. We offer LiDAR (light detection and ranging), with a scanner attached to a plane, helicopter, or drone and used to collect 3D data, penetrating through most vegetation and tree canopies. Airborne scanning is an alternative to tripod-mounted scanners, for faster, more complete coverage in facility inspections.

Thermal Sensors

Thermal Sensors

Sensors identify heat radiation, finding hotspots underground or on-site, and contribute to nocturnal mapping abilities. This equipment is useful in looking for anomalies in a variety of surfaces. Using the differing rates of heating and cooling in materials, we can take advantage of natural cycles. A surface, scanned during a time of ambient temperature change, will highlight areas such as water or oil leaks, corrosion and insulation gaps.

From methane sensors to visual leak detectors, these are extremely useful for oilfields, pipelines, and other areas where fugitive emissions are a common problem. Aircraft and drones can quickly scan large areas and monitor for leaks.
